Back to the Table
Summer always seems to have its own rhythm.
Schedules change. Family comes and goes. There are trips to take, people to visit, long days that turn into later dinners, and a little more time to simply enjoy being together.
And somehow, no matter what else is happening, I still seem to find my way back to the kitchen.
This summer has been no exception.
I’ve had Joey home, which means there has been no shortage of opportunities to cook. We’ve made simple dinners and slightly ridiculous ones. There was an entire Asian feast one night with Hunan chicken, beef and broccoli, seafood fried rice, crab rangoon and wonton soup. It took forever. The kitchen looked like we had opened a restaurant without telling anyone.
It Was Never Just About Dinner
Some of my favorite moments with my family happen around food.
Sometimes it’s a dinner I’ve planned for days. Sometimes it’s something we threw together because everyone was hungry. There are meals we make over and over and others that begin with someone saying, “What if we tried...?”
We talk while we cook. We taste things straight from the pan. We change recipes halfway through. We sit down together and inevitably start talking about what we should make next.
Food has always been one of the ways I take care of the people I love.
And somewhere along the way, that became Comfort Table.
When I started this business, I knew I wanted to make good, homemade meals. But Comfort Table has become about more than simply delivering dinner.
It’s about giving someone one less thing to think about at the end of a busy day.
It’s about a meal waiting when life has been particularly full.
And maybe, once dinner is handled, there’s a little more time to sit down together.
A Little Summer Inspiration
Even though the regular weekly menu slowed down for summer, the cooking certainly didn’t.
I’ve been trying recipes, playing with new ideas and thinking about what I want this next Comfort Table season to look like.
Some familiar favorites will absolutely be returning. There are certain dishes I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t let me retire even if I tried.
But I’ve also been working on some new things.
Different flavors. Different cuisines. A few twists on familiar comfort food. And, as always, meals that I hope feel special without feeling fussy.
Because that’s still what I want Comfort Table to be.
Real food. Made from scratch. Generous portions. Familiar enough to feel comforting, but interesting enough that dinner is something to look forward to.
Back to the Table
And now, it’s almost time to begin again.
Comfort Table weekly meal delivery returns Monday, September 14, with deliveries available Monday through Thursday.
For now, I’m enjoying these last weeks of summer, cooking for the people gathered around my own table and getting everything ready to cook for you again.
I’m excited for the new recipes.
I’m excited to bring back the old favorites.
But most of all, I’m excited to get back to what Comfort Table has always been about:
Making it a little easier to gather around the table with the people you love.
See you in September.
i cook. you relax. dinner’s handled.
